Shoreland Woods in West Of The Trail

Shoreland Woods at West Of The Trail

Shoreland Woods is a small area of homes West of the Trail not easily differentiated from Cherokee Park. In general, this neighborhood is home to home sites with mature trees and sidewalks. Here you will find new home construction as well as renovated, older homes with distinctive character and quality. Within walking distance to Southside Elementary, residents also enjoy bicycling to Southside Village and Morton’s Gourmet Market, as well as biking to Siesta Key. The neighborhood is just blocks from Sarasota Bay as well, for sunset watching or fishing.

Blue Rooster

Blue Rooster

We would describe The Blue Rooster, located in downtown Sarasota's fringe and up-and-coming Rosemary District, as a fun bar and grill, serving southern comfort cuisine with a down home vibe in a classic warehouse ambiance and home to live music played in what they call their "classic juke joint atmosphere." Simple southern food is served with fresh ingredients. Here's a sample of menu: Crazy Cajun Shrimp - shrimp with cane syrup orange blossom honey moppin' sauce and minted slaw; Brunswick Stew- from Georgia, made with chicken and smoked ham shanks, butter beans, corn, Yukon gold potatoes, carrots and fresh tomatoes; Heart of Dixie Burger - 100% Black Angus beef with house cured pork belly, gouda cheese, arugula, and sorghum bacon jam; Blue Rooster's Fried Chicken & Waffle- a breast, leg and wing served on an authentic Belgium waffle with whiskey maple syrup and peppered fruit jelly; and Low Country Shrimp & Grits - 6 grilled Big Daddy shrimp with sweet and spicy tomato and mango chutney, served over stone-ground Anson Mills cheddar grits. Yum. With the Rosemary District about to explode with new construction and an injection of big money, we project that The Blue Rooster and its neighboring restaurants and bars, will be around for a while. Not a place for a romantic date if you're looking for quiet and candlelight but a great atmosphere for a celebration or group outing, up for southern comfort food and some great music.

C'est La Vie

C'est La Vie

C'est La Vie has been on Main Street for a very long time and serves the best French pastries, fresh salads, and offers a wonderful selection of French specialties ranging from crepes to baguettes and everything in between. You might think you are in a little French bistro eating inside or better yet, outside is the place to be, whether enjoying a late morning coffee or early aftenoon fresh pastry. Either way, you'll enjoy being in the heart of downtown Sarasota.

Caraguilo's Restaurant

Caraguilo's Restaurant

Love this restaurant on Palm Avenue, one of Sarasota's prettiest streets. Our first visit was in 1997 and we've been going back ever since. We think of Caraguilo's, a family operated and owner restaurant as a true Sarasota treasure. And evidently world re-known chef Emeril Lagasse does too. He recently visited the restaurant for his TV show and was filmed in the kitchen with Anna, the matriarch, making her delicious and famous focaccia bread. Our favorites pizzas: DaVinci with fennel sausage, mushroom and pepperoni or the Pollo Pazzo with blackened chicken, sweet onion and 3 cheeses. Our favorite pastas are the Ravioli with four cheeses+ wilted spinach + the best pomodori sauce in the city and Penne Pasolini with chicken, gorgonzola cream {amazing} and sun-dried tomatoes. Be sure to check out the bar with its urban vibe, brick walls and original artwork. When it's beautiful outside, we always opt to dine al fresco under the awning, people-watching on Palm Avenue. A wonderful place.

Il Panificio

Il Panificio

Our very favorite place for pizza in Sarasota! Located for years on Main Street, it's a Jersey Girl's dream of a pizza. We always go for the thin crust, traditional pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. YUM. You might try White Pizza Pie with Tomato & Basil or Goat Cheese & Arugula Pizza.

Libby's Cafe & Bar

Libby's Cafe & Bar

Libby's Cafe and Bar is still one of the must-go-to restaurants in Sarasota. Located in the ever popular West of the Trail area, and situated in the middle of Southside Village, a small enclave of boutiques, salons, shops, cafes, and Morton's Gourmet Market, Libby's describes itself as a new American bistro with a seasonal menu. Two of our favorites have remained on the menu and we hope they always will. The first is Four Cheese & Pear Tortelloni ~ with a White Truffle Crema. You have never tasted anything so good. And Libby's Prime Burger will blow you away ~ with Bacon Jam, Baby Swiss, Lettuce and Tomato, served with Truffle Parmesan Fries. Check this new item out ~ Libbstacker Truffled Kobe Meatloaf Club, with Prosciutto, White Cheddar Cheese, Crispy Shoestring Onions, Roasted Mushrooms, Romaine, Beefsteak Tomato, and Truffle Aioli. Holy cow. Open for lunch, dinner, Happy Hour and Sunday Brunch.

Mattison's City Grill

Mattison's City Grill

Mattison's City Grill, owned and operated by local chef Paul Mattison, has a great location and wonderful vibe if you're looking for that special place to enjoy libations or food outside, in the fresh air, under umbrellas in a casual but very special atmosphere. Special because it's located in the heart of downtown at Lemon and Main Street, special because of it's proximity to downtown boutiques and shops, special because you can have a great meal under the stars in the midst of the energy that is downtown Sarasota. We've been known to stay for hours ~ it's fun and a great place to meet friends, enjoy a celebration, or experience their daily Happy Hour from 2-6 with $5 Appetizers and $5 Martinis. Menu items include Brick Oven Pizzas; Crispy, Flash Fried Calamari with Asian soy mustard; Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli in Wild Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce; Rack of Lamb Grilled to perfection with Port Wine and English Mustard Glaze; Crab Cakes with Mandarin-Habanero Romoulade; and end your lunch or dinner with Flourless Chocolate Expresso Torte with Fresh Raspberries and Creme Glaise. We love it best at night, with their flaming torches surrounding the wrought iron fence and relaxing with balmy breezes and star gazing.

Shore

Shore

Love this restaurant, owned by the Caraguilo's and presenting a great new concept with farm to restaurant offerings. On St. Armand's Circle, so just minutes from downtown Sarasota and West of the Trail neighborhoods, Shore Diner is an expression of an "open air, mid-century Florida beach cafe". Fresh selections combined with organic recipes are Shore's specialty along with coastal favs. The ambiance is unmistakably unique with totally open air dining under roof and when weather permits, dining on the open deck, moon and star watching. Selections include Key West Shrimp and Scallop Risotto; The Fish Sandwich ~ creole grilled grouper, pico de gallo, lemon mayo and house slaw; a Lobster LGBT ~ Maine lobster salad with tomato on pullman toast; House Ground Shore Burger with bacon jam, cheddar, lto, with truffle fries; Local Red Snapper with wilted spinach, arborio rice cake, caponata; Cast Iron Seared 16 oz. Prime Ribeye with potato puree, grilled asparagus, maitre d' butter. A relaxing, fun, fresh air place!

Siesta Key Oyster Bar

Siesta Key Oyster Bar

A true beach bar in the heart of Siesta Key Village, SKOB as it is affectionately known by locals, is a laid-back bar with attitude and atmosphere. Sit outside if you can and soak up the sounds of the village and the smells of the sea. We love the fried oysters and their fried clams, served with a delectable sauce. Open for Happy Hour every day from 3-6, you can get 12 Raw Oysters for $7 or Louisiana Crawfish for $7. The food is good for bar food and the beer is cold. It's fun too.

State Street Eating House

State Street Eating House

The State Street Eating House is a small but endearing restaurant conveniently located across the street from the new State Street Parking garage in downtown Sarasota. Best described as boasting a mid-century industrial vibe, with reclaimed iron and concrete in residence, State Street, in our humble opinion, offers the best hand-crafted Manhattan in all of Sarasota, in addition to other spectacular cocktails. Small but popular, the bar has been visited by some of Sarasota's more famous individuals who come to this restaurant craving its menu of well-chosen, comfort driven food. You'll find Bake Lobster Mac & Cheese with Truffle Oil and one of the best burgers in town, simply prepared ~ it's got to be the mix of beef because the house burger is outrageously good. Piled with House Pickled Cucumber Ribbons, Olive Oil Mayo, Yellow American Cheese and Red Onion ~ it sounds simple, but offers up a great meal.

The Cottage

The Cottage

The Cottage is in the center of Siesta Key Village and as such, a short trip from West of the Trail neighborhoods, Palmer Ranch and downtown Sarasota. Siesta Key Village is a true beach village, with that great ambiance of cafes, boutiques, casual stops for ice cream or looking for that souvenir hat. It has a great vibe as a beach restaurant and can best be described as serving food from farm to fusion with a little Peruvian, Spanish, South American and a touch of eclectic cooking thrown in. There are tapas, burgers, and full dinners, but the menu is so varied and different, we're sure you'll enjoy whatever you order. The Cottage is particularly wonderful right before sunset, because of its proximity to the Gulf and the amazing light that's produced at that time of the day near the water. Enjoy one of their famous and fabulous craft cocktails outside on the patio and afterwards try a Grilled Flatbread with pulled short rib, curry aioli, crumbled bleu cheese topped with a bed of farm fresh wild arugula and finished with roasted onion vinaigrette drizzle; or try the Teriyaki Mahi Sliders with Asian coleslaw, pickled ginger and wasabi mayo; or what many diners choose, the Lobster Sliders, with fresh Maine lobster salad with ginger, truffle, cilantro and celery. After dining, The Cottage is close enough to take a stroll on the beach, whether during the day or evening. Enjoy!

The Table

The Table

The Table Creekside is one of our favorite restaurants. Sited on Phillipi Creek, dining at the Table presents a relaxed ambiance with a casual but cool vibe. We love their Happy Hour, their craft cocktails and wine selections. We often spend a special occasion here celebrating with fabulous, sophisticated food. Start with a Global Bite like Crispy Oyster Flamenco with key lime aioli and banana pepper mignonette or Crispy Organic spring Chicken Roll with fontina, portabellas, and apple carrot slaw. The Poached Pear Salad is delicious with organic greens, glazed almonds, farmer's cheese and orange blossom vinaigrette. The Short Rib Tortelloni with asparagus bisque, organic wilted spinach, and shaved manchego is delectable but my absolute favorite is the Lobster Carbonara....1 1/4 lbs. of Maine lobster with papparadelle, English cheddar, gruyere, and homemade pancetta. Fantastic desserts too. The Table also offers a Daily Feature.

Two Senoritas

Two Senoritas

Two Senoritas is a casual restaurant in downtown Sarasota on popular Main Street, serving traditional Mexican food and items from the Southwest in an atmosphere reminiscent of somewhere in Mexico...clay tile floors, lots of patterned tiles, decorative columns, lots of bright flowers. There are tables outside for alfresco dining, which is always fun on a beautiful day or evening. It's also the destination for a lot of residents and visitors either before or after a downtown event. This year we watched the July 4th fireworks over the Sarasota Bay and then walked to Two Senoritas...we weren't alone! Their chips and salsa are fabulous and homemade and they serve specialty items as well as classic favorites. The menu is long and detailed and the choices are many.
